When articles have been written, it isn’t enough to just let them sit there waiting for someone to magically happen upon them. Even the most well-written article will be buried by the competition if the article writer does not promote their work.
One of the easiest ways to drive traffic to your content is to use social media. People are chomping at the bit to interact with one another online. Sites like Twitter are constantly abuzz with the latest and greatest. Every writer should have an account at the following major social media websites:
- Delicious
- Digg
- StumbleUpon
- Technorati (especially if you run a blog yourself!)
- Yahoo – so you can “buzz”
- Google Bookmarks
Some of these sites allow users to interact more than others, and some are just ways to bookmark your URLs into the big online directory of websites.
For me, an article isn’t finished when I have just stopped writing. Rather, it isn’t complete until I have submitted it to all of my favorite social bookmarking sites and social networking sites.
Social media isn’t just about getting our your name and content, however. Rather, it’s about making connections. Maybe Jane Doe isn’t interested in your article about the best place to download music. But, she might have a friend who is really into downloading music. Social media makes it EASY for Jane to tell her friend all about your article. Some sites let friends of friends see your articles, too.
The bottom line is that if you are an article writer and you are not submitting your content to online bookmarking sites or social networking sites, you are missing out. You are doing yourself a disservice and selling yourself short. Take advantage of social media to promote your online writing.
