If you are reading through my series on writing articles online, then you have learned about optimal article length and avoiding pronouns. In this next installment, I am going to write about a technique that should always be avoided: keyword stuffing.
“But wait,” you are thinking, “didn’t you tell me that you need to use keywords to get the right ads to my content?” Why yes, yes I did. But like many things in life, too much of a good thing can actually be bad.
It used to be that search engines wouldn’t pay attention to all of the content. Search engines would scan for keywords and then rank the article on the keyword factor alone. But then people started “stuffing” their articles with keywords and paid little attention to their content. Webmasters and article writers used to do rather unethical things, like writing the keywords in the color of the background of the site, so the user couldn’t see them. So the search engines responded and now they pay a lot more attention to the keywords AND the content.
For example, if you are writing an article about homemade bread, then you will likely use “homemade bread” often in the body of the content. But if you want the search engines to see your content as real and valuable, you can’t just write “homemade bread” a hundred times and try to get viewers to your site. No, you have to have keywords that relate to homemade bread: yeast, dough, mixing, rising, proofing, and so on.
Not only does paying attention to the content and using several keywords help ensure that your articles are not penalized by the search engines, it also engages the article reader. Nothing is more boring than reading keyword phrase after keyword phrase. Throwing your readers a change of pace every now and them keeps them on your page. And what happens when they stay on your page? They are more likely to interact with your ads and your other moneymaking content.
My eBook about writing articles online details a three-step system to ensure that you are not keyword stuffing, but are also staying true to your content and bringing relevant ads.
