In the first part of series on writing articles online, I discussed one of the biggest mistakes made by article writers: the overuse of pronouns. In the second part of my series on how to write articles, I will address article length and why it is so important when it comes to writing articles online successfully.
People who read content online want the article to get right to the point. They don’t want fluffy adjectives, they don’t want a large picture painted before them. They want the information and nothing more. As an article writer, it is your job to give them the information they seek.
When we read content we skim the page for the information we are looking for. There is too much to look at otherwise. Think about everything you see when you visit a webpage:
- The content
- Banners ads at the top of a page
- Google ads in various pages
- Affiliate links
- Links to other pages and resources
- Comments or photos
To say the least, there is a lot going on on every single web page. Do your readers a favor and stick to the following guidelines for article writing online:
- Use bulleted lists, like the one above, to list items or call out key points of the article. Using bullets organizes content and allows readers to skim through the vital information.
- Break up sections of the articles by using bold subheadings and titles which dissect the article into smaller topics that fit into the theme of the overall article.
- Each article should contain 400-600 words. If the article is too short, it appears to be less credible than other articles. If an article is too long, readers will move away from your content.
- Always credit sources. Citing sources gives your content credibility and establishes you as an authority who has done his or her research.
